History of DIET, Rayagada, Bissamcuttack
The District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Rayagada, located in Bissamcuttack, Odisha, was established to enhance teacher education and improve the quality of primary and upper primary education in the district. Previously this Institute was known as Secondary Training School (STS) established in the year 1973, at Bissamcuttack Rayagada which has been upgraded to the District Resource Center( DRC), Rayagada and later upgraded to the existing District Institution of Education & Training (DIET) in the year 2010, located at Bissamcuttack block of Rayagada, Odisha.
DIETs were created across India as part of a national strategy following the recommendations of the National Policy on Education (NPE) 1986, which aimed to decentralize and strengthen teacher education institutions.
DIET Rayagada, like other DIETs, was set up to provide pre-service and in-service training for teachers, focusing on primary and upper-primary education. It was established in alignment with Odisha’s effort to improve education in tribal and remote areas, as Rayagada is a predominantly tribal district. The Bissamcuttack location was chosen strategically due to its proximity to schools catering to tribal populations, enabling targeted teacher training for these communities.
Join us in our mission to create a brighter future through quality education. Welcome to DIET, Rayagada – where teaching meets excellence, and learning knows no bounds.
